White Panels in your Scene

This Post explains a nice technique which simulates the reflection of two boxes of light, this post will give to you an improvement to your scenes and bringing them more reality. The reflection of this boxes will give to you render the impression of two light sources like windows or white panels which are normally used in a professional photography studio.

First of all, Make sure you have basic 3D Studio Max knowledge too, I will not explain every little detail so you have to know how to use Max. For example things like the material editor, creating and manipulating objects, modifiers etc should all be familiar.

step 1.

Add to your scene a box beside the object will be render. (this box will give the impression of a box light), now add another box on the opposite side of the first one(this will be the second box light).

Add a material and only change de difuse color to Pure White, and put 100% in Self -llumination Color rollout. Now, apply this material to the 2 boxes.

Step 2

Then create The groundplane:

If your scene doesn’t have any GroundPlane, please check this step, if you does just go to next step.

We will try to build an infinite background in a simple way. A smart way to do that is to create a spline like letter “L”. Then select the corner vertex and go to “modify”,select the “fillet”tool and smooth the corner of groundplane whith high value, so when you’ll render you will not see a sharp edge between back wall and floor.

Okay, now you have an infinite background to use in all your render scenes. xD

step 3.

Render you scene with any reflective material applied to your object that you wanna render with this box light technique reflected, and enjoy it ! Try to play with the Height, Length and Width values of the boxes to create different results.
