After Effects Tip: Share video with Xvid Codec

xividcodec

Xvid is a file format that can be easily compressed generating a high-definition video and squeezing dramatically the output file size. Therefore, the Xvid codec is ideal for archiving home video, trasmitting video over a network, e.g. in case you want to share one of your videos with your friends via the internet. Compressing  such video with Xvid is a great big deal, saving time, downloand times and space of your Hard disk, without losing quality.

Step 01. Open an After Effects project file that you wanna export with Xvid Codec.

Step 02. Select  the composition you wanna render out, and then choose Composition > Pre-render..

Step 03. On “Render Queue Tab”, in Output Module option click on the triangle and choose “Custom…”

Step 04. In Video Output click on Format Options.

Step 05. Set the Compressor in popup menu to Xvid MPEG-4  Codec and Leave the Default settings. and press Okay

Step 06. Now, Choose the Output name and  render the composition.

Tip:  On render Settings check “Use OpenGL  Renderer”.

OpenGL is a set of standards for high-performance processing of 2D and 3D graphics for a wide variety of  applications. For After Effects users, OpenGL provides fast, high-quality rendering for previews and final  output by moving rendering from the CPU to the OpenGL  hardware (GPU).

Now, you have a exported video with a great quality and minimum space size required on the output video size.

That’s all folks!   =)

Tip and Tricks – Loading IES Lights in 3ds max

ieslight

3ds max is one of many 3d softwares that use IES lights (Illumintating Enginering Society). 3dsmax allows you to use external Photometric Web files. A Photometric Web is a 3D representation of the light intensity distribution of a light source.

Step 01. Go to Create Panel, click on Lights and select Photometric Lights from the drop-down list,  then click on any one of the lights and put it in the scene(it doesn’t work with IES sun and IES sky) and pllace the lights properly at desired locations, I prefer to use Target Point.

Step 02. With the Light selected, go to Modify Panel and set Distribution from “Isotropic” to “Web”, you can find this parameter on the Intensity/Color/Distribution rollout . Now, we must tell to 3ds max that we gonna use an external IES light. When you select the distributin method to “Web”, a new parameter rollout will appear called  by “Web Parameters”. In that click on the button called Web file. Look for the IES file you wanna use and open it.

Step 03. Finally, set the parameters according to your needs.

cheers and enjoy it!
